Home   Why Spinoffs?   Find Spinoffs

Disclaimer

I am a 62 year old guy who is fascinated with investing and has spent a good bit of time and effort finding an “edge” that works for me given my constraints of time, no formal education in investing and analysis, and limited capital. I favor situations in which I can find undervalued stocks with a limited downside, with a greater than average chance of increasing in value, and that are likely not be be attractive to the big investors (at least at the start.)

I like spin-offs because

  • they limit the number of stocks I have to watch at any given time
  • they often start out undervalued
  • they are often unattractive to the big guys
  • there is lots of information available through publicly available documents
  • they tend to unfold slowly enough that I can keep up with what it happening
  • historically they have been likely to outperform the market, often even moving counter to a downtrending market

The amount that I don’t know about investing seems to grow larger everytime I learn more. It’s like climbing a mountain and discovering with every turn that the summit is much further up; a great challenge.

If you get one good idea or tool out of this blog, then I will have achieved my goal in putting it together.
